Shortlist of four designers to take Seaton seafront plan forward

Monday, 03 December 2012

A shortlist of four designers has been drawn up to take the seafront redevelopment programme in Seaton forward.

As previously reported, Community Leadership SouthWest was commissioned by Seaton Town Council to co-ordinate a community consultation and designer selection process. The budget for this process is about £10,000, funded by East Devon District Council as part of Seaton Regeneration Board.

The brief is to “devise a clear and agreed plan for seafront redevelopment in order to later seek funding towards a phased implementation”.

It is hoped that those shortlisted will be interviewed before Christmas
Town clerk Tony Le Riche was pleased with the response to a series of drop-in public consultations.

Mr Le Riche said that before last Saturday’s final drop-in session, more than 80 people had already taken the opportunity to submit ideas, one person doing so by submitting an 8ft drawing on wallpaper.

Mr Le Riche said about the response: “It’s been very good.”

A consultation summary will also be produced in due course for public feedback.
A project progress report stated: “It is recognised that the designer selected for this work (in essence a sketch scheme) will not necessarily be the best for the next phase of the work which would be to consult on the sketch scheme and then develop more detailed plans suitable for costing, seeking funding and for formal recognition alongside the Local Plan.”

Mr Le Riche stressed that development ideas can still be submitted (in writing or as pictures and plans) to: Peter Jeffs, Seafront Plan Co-ordinator, Seaton Town Hall, Fore Street, Seaton, EX12 2LD. Ideas can also be emailed to petej172@ hotmail.co.uk.
