SEATON: Hawkwind back in Seaton for Easter
Thursday, 01 May 2014
Q&A | Matthew Wright on stage with members of the band
Iconic space rock pioneers Hawkwind entertained the people of Seaton at another show-stopping ‘Hawkeaster’ event at the Town Hall. Adoring fans, known as the ‘Hawkwind Family’, travelled from all over the world to make it to Seaton for the annual concert weekend, which saw the psychedelic rock heroes headline on both nights. The band was supported by 12 other acts over Friday and Saturday, and Branscombe Brewery even produced some specially produced ales – ‘Levitation’ and ‘Sonic Attack’ – named after classic Hawkwind tracks. The whole of the Gateway was used during the weekend and local artist Richard Webster got children and parents involved to help create a Hawkwind mural made of multi-coloured balloons. TV presenter Matthew Wright, a dedicated Hawkwind fan, was also on hand to host a special charity auction and Q&A event during the weekend. Bed and breakfasts and restaurants were booked out as fans flocked to Seaton for the event. Organisers thanked the 40 volunteers who worked to make the weekend possible.
