HONITON: Antiques robbery attack

Thursday, 27 March 2014

A woman was attacked and a number of high value items were stolen in a robbery at an antiques shop in Honiton on Saturday (March 22nd).
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man attacked a female shop worker at Banwell Antiques in High Street at around 9am on Saturday morning.
The offender stole a large quantity of expensive jewellery including gold bangles, bracelets, necklaces and rings.
A police spokesperson said: “The male sought is a white male of slim build, heavily unshaven with short dark hair, aged between 30 and 50. He was wearing a blue coat, blue denim jeans, black trainers, a beige coloured flat cap and was carrying a blue rucksack.”
The woman was attacked by a lone male as she opened the store to start work.
The suspect made off with a number of items including 30 semi-precious and diamond-set pendants, an 18-carat solid gold solitaire ring and a necklace of hollow ornate gold balls.
The spokesperson said the woman was “shaken but unhurt” after the attack, and that this type of incident was “extremely rare” for the area.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses who may have seen anyone in the vicinity of High Street and the junction of Silver Street at or around 9am on Saturday March 22nd to come forward, either by contacting Devon and Cornwall police on 101 quoting police log number 467 22/03/14, or anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
