AXMINSTER: Firefighters get busy with the suds

Wednesday, 19 March 2014

Firefighters throughout Devon and Somerset spent a day on car wash duty - the crew at Axminster included.
The aim was to raise money for The Firefighters' Charity by setting up temporary car wash facilities on Saturday March 8th.
Tesco's Axminster branch allowed the local firefighting crew to set up shop in the supermarket car park. A steady queue formed and the busy firefighters just about managed to get together for a photo.
They raised £713.54, beating last year’s total of £700.
Crew manager Peter Beviss said: “We had a really good day and were well supported by the public.
"We were kept busy washing cars but Tesco looked after us once again and we’d like to thank them for their support.”
In a statement issued before the event: "Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service chief fire officer Lee Howell said: “Monies raised through national fundraising initiatives provide a real boost to The Fire Fighters' Charity.
"As well as being a fun and popular event for the charity, the national car wash also gives our firefighters the opportunity to share important safety messages with members of their local community.
“Your valued donations will go towards helping thousands of men, women and children from the fire and rescue community during their times of need.”
