HONITON: Cafe scoops Pride of Honiton award

Wednesday, 19 March 2014

Lacemakers’ Cafe in High Street has been announced as the winner of the 2014 Pride of Honiton award, after residents cast their votes in a poll to find the town’s best businesses.
The coveted trophy, won last year by House of Hair, was presented to Ray and Fiona Hanratty by Chamber of Commerce Chairman Colin Wright at the Chamber’s AGM on Wednesday.
Cafe owner Mr Hanratty said: “I would like to say a very big thank you, on behalf of all the team at Lacemakers, to all those who nominated us.
“It is a humbling experience to win this award after just two years in the business and hopefully we can now go from strength to strength.”
Lacemakers beat competition from A. Dimond and co, Baker’s Butchers, Go Mobile, Hillside Garage, Just Cards, Liquid Assets, Otter Windows, Wendy’s Cookshop, Wine World and Zest, to claim the award.
Mr Wright said: “This is the fourth year we have run the Pride of Honiton award and we had 12 nominations this year from a number of different types of business. We had some really nice recommendations.
“We set out to find businesses which have served the town well and who have gone out of their way to demonstrate excellent customer care and an outstanding level of service.
“I am delighted to present the award to this year’s winners Lacemakers Cafe.”
Mr Wright also told assembled members that the Chamber had enjoyed another successful year, with particular praise for businesses involved with the town’s Bygone Christmas event in December.
He also said the Chamber would continue to lobby East Devon District Council for cheaper car parking in Honiton, particularly on High Street, where businesses needed to “pull together” to enhance the shopping experience.
