SIDMOUTH: Coffee morning for animal charity
Thursday, 13 March 2014
ARC Animal Rescue has been running for more than 40 years rescuing and re-homing lost or unwanted pets in the Sidmouth area.
The rescue centre, based in Ottery St Mary, provides assistance and advice to pet owners, and last year alone 135 animals were found new homes.
Most of the animals at the centre are dogs but ARC also has links with other charities, local and national, involving all sorts of domestic animals.
On Tuesday, March 4th, there was a coffee morning held at Manor Pavillion in order to raise funds to help pay for the running of the new centre which opened in May last year.
Manager Crystal Scott, who has been involved with the charity for the last 20 years said: “We try to do this four times a year and we typically raise between £250- £350 on each occasion.”
ARC, also known as Sidmouth Animal Welfare and Animal Rescue Circle, also sell calendars at their centre and along with the funds raised from coffee mornings and other activities, they help to pay the staff and veterinary bills – which can sometimes be very costly, often because the animals are in a bad condition due to neglect when they are taken in.
There were lots of stalls selling bric-a-brac, cakes, books, clothes and a raffle with all proceeds going to the charity.
More information can be be found on their website www.arcrescue.co.uk.
