SIDMOUTH: Jumble sale for new HQ
Thursday, 13 March 2014
There was a huge turnout in St Francis Church Hall, Woolbrook on Saturday (March 8th), as the 1st Sid Vale Scout Group held their jumble sale.
The hall was jam-packed with stalls and buyers, all eager to get their hands on a bargain.
The Beavers, Cubs and Scouts were all on hand to help raise funds for their new hut, which will be built at Salcombe Hill, near the Norman Lockyer Observatory.
“Our target overall is £250,000 and today is just one of many events which we are doing to help raise funds,” said Wolf Pack Cub Leader, John Hammond.
“We usually do two jumble sales a year, a Shoeshine at Waitrose, various collections in town and we are also organising a concert in All Saints Church with the LaLa Choir at the beginning of July.”
Mr Hammond added: “1st Sid Vale is the largest scout group in East Devon, and with 140 people involved with the group in total. The old hut in Manor Road has become too small. We have 30 Cubs in each pack, one meets on Mondays, the other on Thursdays – and at the moment we’re using school halls and the Guide hut. We’ve simply outgrown the hut we have.”
Work on the new site will need to be started before the end of the year, before planning permission expires.
The 1st Sid Vale Scout Group comprises of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts – covering ages from six-years-old to 18-years-old.
They are always on the lookout for volunteers and leaders who might be able to help – anyone wishing to do so should contact them via email at email@example.com.
