SEATON: Smashing time making bangers

MEMBERS of 1st Beer Scout troop were given a real treat last week – a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into the great English banger.
Robbie Drew, owner of friendly local butchers David Drew & Son of Sidbury, offered to give the troop their own private master chef class and let them into some of the secrets of making a tasty sausage.
The scouts watched enthralled as Robbie gave the demonstration and the offered them the chance to make their own sausages and get their hands stuck into mixing the ingredients and feeding the sausage machine.
“Oh so slimmy,” said 10-year-old Ethan Gribble as he worked the sausage skins on the machine.
Scout leader Fiona Gage said: “I had to laugh at the looks of concentration from the scouts as they tried so hard to keep the sausages the same thickness.”
All the scouts then learnt to make a chain from the one long sausage.
Sam Morton added: “It’s not so easy to make it look like sausages!”
Tyron Bird then led the scouts in a rousing chorus of ‘bravo’ to thank Robbie for giving up his time and sausages before the troop returned to base to cook up their bounty and enjoy a real feast.
“We really want to thank Robbie and Drews of Sidbury for giving up two evenings to teach these young people this skill,” added Fiona.
