AXMINSTER: Tick Tocks Ofsted success
Thursday, 27 February 2014
Tick Tocks Day Nursery in Axminster has maintained the second highest overall Ofsted rating.
An inspection took place in January and Tick Tocks was deemed Good.
Inspectora use a four-step scale - 1 Outstanding, 2 Good, 3 Requires improvement and 4 Inadequate.
The previous inspection, in 2010, also earned Tick Tocks a Good rating.
Tick Tocks is located in Lyme Close, and the initial part of the inspection report said: “Children at the nursery are keen learners and engage quickly in activities when they arrive.
“This is because activities have been well planned to reflect the interests of the children.
“Staff provide a broad range of resources and activities across the areas of learning which are tailored to ensure that the developmental needs of the children are met.
“This ensures that children make good progress at the nursery.”
Tick Tocks is owned by Alison Coleman and Lynn Knight, the former saying: “You are always a little on edge when Ofsted are around even though you know the nursery is good.
Two steps away
“We were two recommendations away from being Outstanding.”
The report also stated: “It is not yet Outstanding because information from parents about their child’s development and interests is not always gathered at the earliest opportunity in order to track progress when children first start.
“There are fewer opportunities in the outdoor area to promote all areas of learning, particularly with regard to mathematics and literacy.”
