EAST DEVON: Hotel owner slams national media coverage of storms

Thursday, 27 February 2014

The Fairwater Head Hotel, based in Hawkchurch, near Axminster, has slammed the national media coverage during the recent storms and wet weather.
Carrie Southwell, proprietor of the Fairwater Head, said: “The national media coverage is giving the impression that the South West is impossible to get to and just about closed for business.
“This is stopping visitors from coming to the area and it could not be further from the truth.
“Yes, some areas further along the coast have problems but the overall picture is business as normal.
“We are based just a few miles from Lyme Regis which bore the brunt of the bad weather and yet we are open as normal and easy to get to.
“It’s not just us, it’s the other traders throughout the area. We have had potential guests calling us to ask if we are open and even some asking if they should cancel bookings.”
