COLYTON: School staff honoured for 20 years of service
Friday, 21 February 2014
TWO staff members from Colyton Grammar School have each been given a long-service award for 20 years of dedicated work.
Librarian Sue Burns-Price and headteacher’s personal assiatant Sandra Parsons both joined the school in 1993 and can remember it undergoing many changes since that time.
In the past 20 years, the school has expanded significantly and new buildings such as the sports hall, the sixth form study centre and the Walker Building, which houses the library, have been built.
Mrs Burns-Price even remembers “being shown the internet for the very first time by an IT teacher”.
Both women have contributed a great deal during their time at Colyton. Mrs Burns-Price was commended in particular for the work she has done to develop the school website, and for organising the team of volunteer parent helpers, while Miss Parsons was praised for the great range of administrative work she deals with in a “super-efficient” manner.
Miss Parsons, a former pupil of the school, said she particularly enjoys the “element of community” that the school has, as well as the variety of work she receives.
“Every year is different,” she added.
Mrs Burns-Price said it was a “pleasure to come into work” as the environment was “stimulating” and there was “always something new every day”.
They received their awards from the chairman of the governors’ staffing committee, Linda Linnell, alongsiode other governors and headteacher Paul Evans.
