AXMINSTER: Teachers get a soaking but it’s all in a good cause for charity

Thursday, 21 August 2014

Staff were in for a soaking when Axe Valley Community College student Lydia HartnelI organised a fundraising event for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Lydia chose this charity as it is very close to her heart, her younger brother Quentin has CF and also a development delay. CF is a genetic disease which affects the lungs and digestive system. Lydia and a team of her friends - Bethany Hill, Freya Robley, Emily Badder, Alice Cann, Eve Hardwick, Ethan Hulme, Charley Ovendon, Britney Macklin, Chelsea Dack and Amber Snell - organised a Soak the Teacher event and cake sale. Lydia would like to thank the teachers that very kindly offered themselves up as ‘victims’ - Mr Smith, Mr Perks, Mr Horn, Mr Scott, Mr Davies and Miss Stockton. Lydia said: “A massive thank you to all the people who donated, bought a cake, threw a sponge or chucked a bucket of water for my charity, The Cystic Fibrosis Trust. “It was a great deal of fun and we raised an impressive £146.60. “I would especially like to thank Chelsea and Freya, as they ran around the field an impressive nine times at lunch. “Amber Snell was also going to run but she had an injury and wasn’t able to come into school but I would like to say thank you to her for helping me with the assemblies, to Eve, Beth and Ethan in charge of the cake stall and Charley, Emily, Alice and Britney helped me with the sponge throwing. “I think we all agree it was great fun.”
