n SUCCESSFUL: Tobi Rouse, Jessica and Matilda Leat

WOULD-BE thespianTobi Rouse has won Axminster Drama Club’s Gwyn Llewellyn Memorial Shield For Young Talent. Committee members felt he deserved the award because of his recent stage performances and his really positive attitude, even when being in the minority with so many young female members. The shield was presented by Ros Llewellyn, and club President Thelma Critchard presented the President’s Trophy to two other young members - Jessica and Matilda Leat - for always encouraging others to get involved and have a go and proving you are never too young to help with all the back stage tasks that are required for any production. The club’s recent annual general meeting saw Sara Leat being elected chairman, the first female to hold that post in the club. Sara appeared in and co-produced Calendar Girls and has also been responsible for the children’s chorus for several pantos and summer shows. Treasurer Tony Fells was able to report on a most successful year financially because of the record audiences for both Calendar Girls and this year’s panto, Peter Pan, written by former chairman Tim Leat. Following the success of Hickory Dickory Dock, written and produced by club member Andy Coley, it is now all systems go for Axminster Drama Club’s next production - Neville’s Island, written by Tim Firth. The show dates are September 4th, 5th and 6th, and tickets will go on sale soon. Auditions will also take place on Thursday, August 28th with aread through of script on Tuesday, August 26th, both at 7.30pm at the club’s headquarters, The Plaza (behind the Guildhall), for the club’s next pantomime, Puss In Boots - to be directed by Jack Price. For anyone interested in becoming part of the club, more information can be obtained by e-mailing norrlet@aol.com or telephoning 01297 35187 - or just come along to the next productions. Mr Leat said: “You will be assured of a warm welcome.”
