BEER: Regular car boot sale for Beer?
Friday, 07 February 2014
BEER Forum is looking into the possibility of launching a regular car boot sale in the village.
Local business owners who attended the forum’s first meeting of the year heard that East Devon District Council (EDDC) had agreed in principle to allow use of the main car park which is in the centre of the village.
“EDDC said we can use the car park during the winter months when it is not used so much,” said forum secretary Jackie Tite, who owns the village off-licence.
“Councillor Geoff Pook told us it is definitely a possibility but we have to look closer at the rules and regulations involved and things like public liability.
“But I think that could help bring more people into the village, which should help all the shops and businesses and make better use of the car park but first we need to finalise some plans and take it from there.”
Jackie was delighted with the response to the meeting which attracted over 20 people.
One of the key topics for discussion was the annual late night shopping event held in the village at the beginning of December.
“People agreed that it was a quiet event (in 2013) compared to previous years, so we want to improve things for 2014,” added Jackie.
“We want to hold it at the same time again but it was suggested we could have events on the Saturday and Sunday as well. There were a lot of ideas made, including a suggestion to bring along a reindeer.
A lot of things need to be finalised and we will talk about it more at our next meeting on February 12th.”
