SIDMOUTH: You’re hired!

Friday, 07 February 2014

Year 11 students from Sidmouth College have been given the opportunity to test out their interview skills by meeting with local employers.
Having taken part in a “Aim Higher” day in November, the students had already received advice and guidance on how to complete an application form, write a CV and prepare for an interview and so were all fully primed, although a little nervous.
To help quell their nerves, the students first had an opportunity as a year group to interview local employer, Jo Seward from Sidmouth Hotels. From this session, they were able to glean some helpful insights into how employers approach the interview process and what exactly it is that they look for.
Each student took part in a 20-minute interview with a local employer and the feedback was fantastic with many positive comments from the panel of interviewers about the attitude and level of engagement of the students.
Sidmouth College would like to thank the following for giving their time to help the students: Katie Arscott from The King’s School; Kirsty Wackley from The Donkey Sanctuary; John Matthews from SWH; Tim Ford from Fords of Sidmouth; Mr Hutchings from DWP; Jo Seward from Sidmouth Hotels; Julie Marrish from Waitrose; Anne Marie Taylor from Brend Hotels; Sue Senior from Bicton College; Tom Williams from Exeter College; Helen Marsh from DCC; Lesley Code from SWH; and Stefan Gordon from Archant.
