SEATON: Countdown to panto
Friday, 07 February 2014
PREPARATIONS for Beer’s pantomime are moving up a gear as the countdown to the live performances scheduled for the end of the month ticks ever closer.
Director Jon Chilcott and his team, drawn mainly from Beer but also including people from Seaton, are working hard to put the finishing touches to the production of Goldilocks and the Three Bears at the Mariners’ Hall from Friday, February 21st - Sunday, February 23rd.
“It is a group effort with everyone doing bits and bobs towards the production,” said Chilcott, who is in charge for the second successive year.
“I am a big fan of the old-fashioned village panto in village halls where people in thr audience know those performing on the stage and we have a very intimate atmosphere here in the Mariners’ Hall.”
Chilcott has been involved in pantomimes on and off his whole life and since moving to the area from Taunton six years has enthusiastically rekindled his love affair with this traditional form of British entertainment.
“It is a lot of fun and I love the fact that whole families, from grandparents to children, can come along and enjoy it,” added Chilcott, who also wrote the script.
“There is a little bit of panic setting in with only a few weeks to go but as they say in the theatre I’m sure it will be alright on the night!”
Tickets for the production, which will feature performances on the Friday and Saturday evenings with a matinee on Sunday go on sale this week from Beer Newsagents and the Post Office.
Tickets will cost £5 for adults and £2.50 for children.
