SIDMOUTH: Students go without for a day

Wednesday, 18 December 2013

STUDENTS at Sidmouth College went a day without their home comforts to raise funds for those affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
The school switched off all electricity for the “Go Without Day”, organised by the Student Council, with lessons continuing in dim daylight and no computers.
Students and staff were also encouraged to go without some of their favourite things for the day, including mobile phones, iPads, chocolate, television, talking and coffee. Students also came to college dressed in the colours of the Philippine’s flag in return for a small donation and a group of Year 10 geography students sold a homemade “hurricane” cakes, which raised £40.
The total raised on “Go Without Day” was £705, which will be split between two charities – PLAN, which helps the world’s poorest children, and ShelterBox.
