SIDMOUTH: Double celebration for Lions

Thursday, 05 December 2013

Lions Club members, partners and friends gathered at the Kingswood & Devoran Hotel in Sidmouth for a dinner to celebrate a significant milestone in the history of Sidmouth Lions Club.
Seated at the top table alongside Sidmouth Lions Club President Graham Rossiter was a Lions Past District Governor for South West England, Lion Ted Graham, and his wife Anne, and the President of Sidmouth Rotary Club, Lynn Ellis.
Also attending the club’s 37th anniversary dinner were various presidents and members of Axminster, Budleigh Salterton, City of Wells, Honiton, Glastonbury & Street and Seaton Lions Clubs, plus members and friends of Sidmouth Lions Club.
After dinner, Lion President Mr Rossiter summarised some of Sidmouth Lions recent fundraising efforts and mentioned some of the many charitable activities that the Lions Club undertakes.
Past District Governor, Lion Lion Ted Graham, responded to the traditional toast to Lions Clubs International, and Lion Phil Lee proposed the toast to partners and guests, to which Rotary President Lynn Ellis responded on behalf of the guests and emphasised how much Lions and Rotarians have in common.
After the formality of speeches, the Lions and guests mingled and enjoyed the company of friends old and new.
Apart from the 37th anniversary celebration of Sidmouth Lions Club’s formation, one of the Sidmouth Lions has also recently passed a significant milestone. Lion Dennis James has now been a Lion for 40 years, having joined and been a member of Hertford Lions Club for 20 years before he transferred to Sidmouth Lions Club, when he and his wife Yvonne moved to the town.
When asked what he liked most about Lions, Dennis said: “My membership of the Lions organisation has given me enjoyment, great fellowship and the satisfaction that comes from helping others.”
If anyone is interested in helping or joining Sidmouth Lions, or would like to find out more about the Lions, call Chris Rignall on 01395 577450 or check the club’s website
Sidmouth Lions next fundraising event will be a concert at Manor Pavilion Theatre on Saturday, February 22nd, featuring Sidmouth Town Band and Sidmouth Gospel Choir.
