SEATON: New workshops will boost business

Thursday, 05 December 2013

Plans to build more than 20 industrial workshops in Seaton are being drawn up by East Devon District Council (EDDC).
It is hoped that tenants should be able to move in no later than August 2015.
A decision to “support further business growth in Seaton” was taken by EDDC’s Cabinet on Wednesday, November 27th.
Members agreed to authorise detailed design work to enable a planning application and market testing to take place.
Fourteen workshop units, ranging in size from 50 to 70 square metres, are planned at the Colyford Road Depot site.
Another seven, slightly larger units (70 to 84 square metres) are proposed on the Fosseway Park land to the east of Lyme Bay Auction Rooms in Harepath Road.
According to EDDC, the units will be flexible in the way the space is used and will be suitable for a wide range of light industrial purposes or office-based service businesses.
Councillor Ian Thomas, Cabinet member for Economy and chairman of Seaton Regeneration Programme Board, said: “This is another example of the increased confidence in Seaton and forms of part of our regeneration programme bringing further investment and jobs to the town.”
Councillor Steph Jones, EDDC’s Seaton Champion, added: “There is a positive feel in Seaton at the moment and it is important to capitalise on this by generating new business and jobs.
“This will ensure a revitalised town for residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come.”
An EDDC spokesperson added: “To assess demand for the workshop space a marketing exercise will be undertaken in the New Year to inform the timetable for development.
“Subject to planning consent and securing funding, the workshops could be available for tenants by August 2015.”
