Graham Godbeer steps down as Axe Valley Community College governing board
Monday, 22 October 2012
GRAHAM Godbeer has stepped down as chairman of Axe Valley Community College's governing board after 14 years in the post.
He has handed over to Graham Watts, but his 20-year involvement with the governing board will continue as he was voted in as vice-chairman. Mr Godbeer retired from the chairmanship at the first board meeting of the 2012/2013 academic year.
He joined the governing board in October 1992 as a local authority appointee and was elected to chairman in October 1998 upon the retirement of Jennifer Sharratt.
He has been involved with the changes from a school to a community college, which was granted a sixth form followed by specialist status.
During that time pupil numbers rose from the mid 400s to the present figure of 870.
He said: “I have been fortunate to have been supported over this whole period by a strong team of governors and would like to take this opportunity to thank them all. Equally, the two headteachers over these years - Liz Pinfield and Martin Smith - have brought great improvements to the college and have been a pleasure to work with.”
In his new role as vice–chairman he looks forward to help the college make even greater strides in delivering a good education for students within the Axe Valley.
