SIDMOUTH: Sociology students win third place in national competition
Thursday, 17 October 2013
TWO Sidmouth College Students have won a top placein a British Sociological Association national competition.
At the end of Year 12, the college’s A-level sociology students all entered the competition, with Alice Reading and Oliver Down both being placed third. The colleged described their placing as “a fantastic ahievement”.
Alice explained: “In pairs or as individuals, we all worked hard to produce a video, presentation or a piece of writing to answer the question ‘Why is sociology important today?’.
“I worked with Oliver and the two of us decided to be a little more, well, unorthodox with our essay and so weren’t too confident about our prospects for success – so you can imagine how surprised we were when we came third!
“We’ve never had quite an achievement! It was nice to see that everyone got a reward for their efforts, too, and the sociology department was very happy with the recognition the BSA gave us all. It was a great experience for us and we hope to enter another competition in the future.”
Sociology teacher Mrs Dean and Mrs Jenkins were delighted at the efforts all students put into the task. The quality of entries was reflected in the fact that every student won the prize of a t-shirt.
