SEATON: Jimmy Green scoop national accolade

Friday, 24 January 2014

n The Beer family run business Jimmy Green Marine has won a prestigious national award.
The business, which comprises shops in Beer and Seaton as well as an extensive on-line operation specialising in ropes, rigging and safety equipment, was named Marine Retailer of the Year at the recent London Boat Show.
The award was revealed at a glittering dinner at the Crown Plaza Hotel at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre and Rebecca Green, who is a partner in the company with brother James and parents Ali and Susan, said they almost missed the occasion.
“James and I had never been to the dinner before and weren’t planning on going this year either,”?said Rebecca.
“However, when one of the organisers rang us and asked if we would like to attend, and mentioned the award, we thought it was an opportunity too good to miss!
“We were pretty proud when it was announced as it is the first time we have won it and James did a really nice speech – even though he didn’t have anything prepared!”
The business was founded in Beer in 1981 by Ali and his brother Mike and their respective wives Susan and Carol.
Mike and Carol retired in 2007 giving James and Rebecca the chance to become partners and they have continued to push the business forward, diversifying into ski-wear to establish it as one of the best in the UK.
“We have 11 employees in our two shops and the offices in Beer and we also hire casual staff for the shops in the summer,” added Rebecca.
