SIDMOUTH:Lions rally for their annual duck derby

Tuesday, 08 July 2014

Sidmouth Lions are gearing up once again for the annual Great Duck Derby, which takes place on the River Sid next weekend. The main beneficiaries of this year’s event will be the Exeter and East Devon Samaritans, as well as the Sidmouth Hospital Comforts Fund, which will receive charity cash for much-needed medical equipment. Last year’s event raised a total of £5,500 for charity, including proceeds from the corporate duck race, and the Lions will be out in force again to help raise vital money for local charities. The races take place on Sunday, July 20th, starting with the children’s ‘Duck and Spoon’ race at 2:15pm by Sid Park Road Bridge in the Byes. The corporate race for local businesses starts at 2:45pm, with the main yellow race for members of the public getting underway at 3pm. The owners of the first 19 yellow ducks to pass the finishing line will receive a portion of the cash prizes on offer. Tickets for the main duck race can be purchased at £1 each from the Lions stand outside the Co-operative supermarket in High Street, from July 8th-11th and 15th-18th, from outside Lidl in Woolbrook on July 12th and 19th, and from Annie’s and ‘Cards @ 83’.
