PLAYING IT SAFE: Instructor Jack Ward led the session
Staff at Flamingo Pool in Axminster held a free water safety session to prevent drowning. The session was held on Saturday June 28th and featured land and water-based activities, using resources provided by the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS). The Drowning Prevention Week campaign, run by the RLSS, aims to ensure everyone knows how to have fun and stay safe near water. Flamingo pool instructor Jack Ward was in charge of the session and said: “Around 400 people drown in the UK each year, and thousands suffer life changing injuries due to near-drowning experiences. Shockingly drowning is the third highest cause of accidental death in children in the UK. We are happy to support RLSS UK to reduce these numbers by informing swimmers about how to be safe near water, it was a really fun afternoon. “All the children took home certificates of achievement for their efforts.” Jack was one of two Flamingo Pool instructors recently awarded the RLSS certificate of merit at the Guildhall in London for their contribution to RLSS for the delivery of the RLSS Rookie Lifeguard programme.
