HONITON:Warm-up for your workout
Thursday, 03 July 2014
LOCKED UP: Dan Morley, Andy Mackie and Tanya Broom say cyclists can use bike locks free of charge if they ride to the gym at Honiton Leisure Centre
A leisure centre manager is keen for customers to warm-up by cycling to their workouts. The project is in its infancy and Honiton Leisure Centre manager Andy Mackie said: “We have recently started a green initiative which encourages customers to cycle to the centre rather than drive. “It is a good warm-up and it earns them pedal points. When they get 15 points, the cycle shop in Honiton will give them 10 per cent off any purchase and we will enter them into a prize draw for a month’s free membership.” He explained that the project is driven by the centre’s carbon reduction plan, and added: “Our car park space is quite limited but our 15 bike racks are sometimes empty.” As an extra incentive, customers can borrow bike locks at the centre for the duration of their stay. Staff are leading by example, with some cycling to work on and off from Seaton, Exmouth and Axminster. More information is available from the centre.
