Devon County Council chairman George Gribble presents TRIP?Community Transport’s Val Royle with her Lifetime Achievement award

TRIP Community Transport chairman Val Royle's hard work was recognised at Devon County Council's annual Community Transport Awards ceremony. Val was described as “the backbone of community transport in the Honiton area” and clinched the Outstanding Lifetime Contribution Award. Having started as secretary of Honiton Ring & Ride when it was formed 25 years ago, she has also been instrumental in establishing TRIP and has been chairman since its formation. It now serves more than 25,000 people per year throughout the East Devon. She was nominated by fellow TRIP Community Transport members, and the nomination paper said: “Val Royle could accurately be described as the backbone of community transport in the Honiton area. “Her original role was as secretary of the Honiton Ring & Ride when it was first formed over 25 years ago and she was instrumental in establishing the firm foundations that have enabled its continued existence as a highly valued service in the East Devon area. “Val has also been involved in many roles, including chairman and secretary with the Honiton Health & Care Team and it was as a result of this involvement that she was called upon to help develop a solution to transport problems that people with mental health issues were experiencing when trying to attend medical appointments. “As a result, TRIP was created to solve these issues. Val has been chairman of TRIP from its formation and has been instrumental in creating an organisation that is greatly respected in East Devon and further afield and much appreciated by all its users. “Her continued support and guidance over 25 years has been vital and has enabled TRIP to now serve over 25,000 people per year throughout East Devon area and become the forward thinking and pro-active group that it is today.”
