SEATON: Scouts kept busy in Beer
Tuesday, 17 June 2014
Beavers, Cubs, Scouts Explorer Scouts and leaders from Beer made the most of Scout Community week (June 2nd-8th). The Beavers worked hard with Beer Horticultural Society, weeding and preparing planters for new plants. The Cubs started attacking the weeds in the brook but had to stop when the heavens opened and the brook flooded. The Scouts, however, finished the moss clearing and weeding of the upper half of the brook on Thursday evening. Leader Nigel Groves said: “The young people have worked hard all week. “We ended up with over eight wheelbarrow loads of weeds coming out of the brook. “We also ended up with lots of soggy but happy cubs and scouts too. “It was great that so many people – both holidaymakers and locals – stopped to comment on the hard work the young people were putting in and the difference it was making.” Scout Sam Morton said: “My hands are so icy cold but its good fun.” Ursula Makepeace of Beer Horticultural Society commented: “Britain in Bloom judges are coming to judge the village soon and the work the Scouts have all put in will be noticed.”
