SEATON: Carnival call for buskers
Tuesday, 17 June 2014
Carnival organisers are calling on acoustic musicians of all ages and styles to register for Seaton Carnival’s third annual busking competition on August 30th. The competition is part of the annual carnival week celebrations and helps raise money for local charities. Organisers are offering prizes in a range of categories, including Best Band, Best Individual, and Best Junior, plus a Spirit of Carnival prize for the musician who collects the most money for charity and puts most effort into their performance. Money donated to participating buskers by the public will go to local good causes. One of the organisers, Jon Croose, said: “This will be the third year for the busking competition and we want to make it bigger and better this year. “We are spreading the word to local open mic sessions, arts organisations, music events and folk clubs, and we hope local musicians will support the event and help us publicise it through their networks. “The competition judges will be looking for musical ability, passion, entertainment value and audience interaction. “The town will be packed for the carnival procession later in the day and this is a real chance for local musicians to show off their skill, personality and performance ability and to help local charities in the process. We welcome all musical styles and instruments. The competition is open to non-amplified singers and musicians only and each performer will be asked to play for 15 minutes, during which time they will be judged.” Anyone who wants to enter the busking competition should e-mail him at email@example.com Entrants under the age of 16 should have their parents' consent. All performers must register in advance and pay a registration fee of £2 on the day.
