COLYTON: History society holds open day to mark 25 years of service point

COLYTON?Parish History will be celebrating 25 successful years of providing a Devon History Service Point this week. The society will be celebrating the anniversary on Thursday, June 19th with an open day at their new Colyton Heritage Centre at the Merchant’s House in Market Place, starting at 10.30am. Brian Carpenter, community and education development officer for Devon Heritage Centre, will open proceedings by speaking about the importance of this key local history service point. He will be followed by three local history experts - Feoffee and parish councillor Colin Pady, who will speak about the history of the Chamber of Feoffees and the contribution it has made to the development of Colyton over the centuries; John Cochrane will speak about the nationally important collection of Feoffee records and why the society is applying to the Heritage Lottery Fund for a grant to digitise and transcribe the records; and John Forrester Addie will speak about how to begin researching your family history and investigating the history of your house. All are welcome to attend this free event.
