Last week, Bridget Hill of Macmillan Cancer Support visited Peco in Beer to collect a cheque for £1,500, helping to fund the charity’s support of people affected by cancer in Devon. The donation was presented by staff at Peco who had raised sponsorship for running the Beer Blazer 5k/10k runs in May. Other staff helped by baking cakes and selling homemade cards – all in memory of their work colleague Chris Edwards, who lost his fight with cancer earlier this year. Peco Engineering director Ben Arnold said: “Chris was one of our toolmakers in the manufacturing business and had worked with us for more than 18 years. Chris also helped organise many great social events for staff - he is very much missed. “The staff wanted to remember him and felt that raising funds for Macmillan in Devon was a great way to do it, so it was a real delight to hand over our donation to Bridget last week. “The Beer Blazer, which conveniently starts in the Pecorama visitors car park, is a popular but extremely challenging fun run and ten staff took part in the event. “The runners were Tim Vincent, Keith Agland, Margaret Pearce, Mark Usher, Alex Todd, Steve Somers, Emma Wall, Gillian Peach, Eve Searle and Jill Adams. Between them, they ran either the 5k or 10k courses; both were extremely challenging being around the steep hills of Beer, so huge congratulations to all who completed it. “Special contributions were also made by Sharon Wall, Christopher Taylor, Fran Vincent and Kim Beviss, helping to get everyone at Peco involved.”
