Mr Stimpson with his impressive model railway

Mr Stimpson with his impressive model railway

A Honiton couple will open their garden to visitors this weekend, after transforming it into a state-of-the-art model train network. Locomotion enthusiasts Roger and Barbara Stimpson, who have been married for 53 years, will open the doors to their home in Redwood Close on Sunday (June 15th) to finally present the completed railway, after a decade of work at a cost of around £4,000. Visitors will be invited to take a look around the new garden, with donations being collected for the Devon Air Ambulance. Speaking ahead of the event, Mr Stimpson, a former electrician, said: “We have made use of the ambulance service so many times in the past and the paramedics that have come to help us when I have had falls have always been very, very good. “There is an excellent team of people there who look after us – and this is a way for us to repay them for what they have done for us. The garden, at 5 Redwood Close, will be open to visitors with free entry, and Mr and Mrs Stimpson have organised a burger van and candy floss machine to provide food and drink on the day. There are now just a few finishing touches to add before the grand opening, which will be attended by the mayor and town crier among other guests.
