COLYTN: Arson attack on parked car

Friday, 17 January 2014

THREE crimes were reported in the Colyton area in December 2013, including an arson attack on a car, which police have described as “highly unusual”.
The arson took place at about 9.40pm on December 4th, when a green Mazda parked at the junction of Grimblemead and Hillgead was deliberately set fire to, causing extensive damage.
PC Stephen Speariett said: “The arson in Colyton is of concern and highly unusual for the area. Enquiries are ongoing but indications are that this is a one off incident and we have increased patrols in the area.”
If anyone has any further information on the incident, contact police on 101 quoting crime reference number KN/13/548.
Other crimes reported during December included two incidents of common assault as a result of the same domestic-related incident on December 23rd.
The total of three crimes compares to four incidents in November 2013 and two in December 2012.
Speaking in incidents reported throughout the whole of the Seaton Rural policing area, which includes Colyton, PC Speariett said: “December’s crimes are dominated with acquisitive offences (5) and domestic related incidents (3). There were two thefts from cars, one in Beer and the other in Branscombe; it is highly likely that these two crimes were committed by the same offenders. The crimes serve as a timely reminder not to leave any valuable items on display in your vehicles.
“It was sad to see that a local male decided to steal a joint of meat in the early hours of Christmas day from the Anchor pub in Beer. The offender had offered to pay back the full amount for the meat and is very sorry for his actions on this holy day.”
