COLYTON: TV news reporter hands out awards for students
Friday, 17 January 2014
COLYTON Grammar School leavers celebrated their achievements at a prizegiving ceremony last week, where the guest speaker was television news reporter and crime novelist, Simon Hall.
Mr Hall, of BBC “Spotlight”, attended the ceremony at Seaton Town Hall and presented prizes an certificates to last year’s school leavers.
Headteacher Paul Evans praised the students for venturing out in the inclement winter weather, pointing out that this would be the very last time that so many of them were “all in one place together”.
He highlighted how well the year group had achieved in their various A-level exams before introducing Mr Hall.
The guest speaker engaged the students with a talk about the importance of perseverance and practice as the “golden secret” of success, encouraging them to enjoy themselves at university whilst continuing to work hard. He then presented prizes and certificates.
Former student Rachel Denton, from Axminster, who is currently an art student at the University College Falmouth, said: “It was a great and memorable evening and we are very grateful to Mr Evans and his colleagues for organising it!”
