AXMINSTER: FORCE cyclists shaping up for their ride from Venice to England

STATIC: Steve and Shane attracting attention in Exeter
An Axminster man has been busy filling pannier bags with bricks before cycling long distances several times. Steve Norman and cycling partner Shane Johnston (from Exeter) have used the extra load to prepare themselves for challenging climbs during their forthcoming ride from Venice to England. As previously reported, the ride will be in aid of FORCE Cancer Charity. Steve lost his partner, Shirley, to cancer two years ago, but received a huge amount of help and support from FORCE. They will travel to Italy on Sunday (June 8th) and plan to be back three weeks later to take part in the Annual FORCE Century Cycle Challenge (100 mile or 100 km rides starting and finishing at Topsham Rugby Club). They have been busy fundraising by taking their turbo trainers to shopping areas in Exmouth and Exeter, raising a total of £400 from the two events. When asked if he is ready for the challenge, Steve said: “Hopefully, fingers crossed. “We have done over 200 miles a week for the last month, some of the rides with bricks in the pannier bags.” Anyone wishing to sponsor the ride can do so online at http://thenelly2014.wordpress.com
