HONITON: 104 not out

Tuesday, 27 May 2014

n HAPPY RETURNS | Stanhope House’s oldest resident celebrated his 104th birthday this week with a special celebration and a visit from the Mayor of Honiton. Arthur Harris, who moved into the Abbeyfield housing shelter eight years ago, lived in Bristol for most of his life, working in various professions as a telephone engineer and later for Rolls Royce. His daughter Molly, who celebrated the event with her father and friends from the shelter on Thursday, said her father had been a ‘jack of all trades’ during his life. Mr Harris, a conscientious objector during World War II, also received a visit from Honiton’s new mayor, Councillor Peter Halse, and his wife Ann, who paid tribute to the 104-year-old on his birthday.
