Curry and quiz raises £700 for charity trip

Wednesday, 21 May 2014

A CURRY and quiz night was held in St Theresa's Hall, Sidmouth, on Saturday to try and help raise money for the charity Operation Raleigh. Sidmouth resident, Jack Bolton, 18, is travelling to Borneo on an environmental adventure to assist with charitable work and community projects. He said: “I leave on June 23rd for seven weeks. I'll be joining other people from all over the globe, who come together to help communities in the underdeveloped world. We're going to be in virgin jungle, preparing the way for specialists to come in, building wells, helping to construct roads - I won't find out exactly until I get there!” Operation Raleigh helps young people to assist in charitable work, but funds are needed and Jack has been working to raise the £2,350 for the expedition. Speaking before the event he said: “I've been working in Fat Face, writing to local trusts, and going to car boot sales to try and hit my target. I'm hoping tonight will raise the last funds I need. We've sold out so I'm quite optimistic.” Jack has only just come back from Lourdes in France after being away with HCPT Pilgrimage Trust so his mum helped to organised the curry and quiz night, which raised a total of £708, while he was away. Jack commented: “ I would like to say thanks to my mum for arranging everything for tonight whilst I was away, and to all those who donated prizes for the raffle and of course to everyone who came along.”
