SIDMOUTH: Grand garage sale for Samaritans
Thursday, 15 May 2014
For the last 40 years, Sidmouth Friends of Samaritans have been working continuously to raise funds to support the Exeter branch of Samaritans. They have raised more than £100,000 during this time, and on Saturday, May 10th, a garage sale was held in Broadway, Sidmouth in order to boost the total. “We raise funds by having regular coffee mornings in the Methodist Hall, an annual street collection and garage sales,” said chairman Sue Kensdale. “We also sell things on Ebay. People often donate unwanted items to us so we can sell them, and pass on the money to The Samaritans. The weather hasn't been as bad as we expected, but today has been a little quieter than usual.” The committee have more garage sales planned for later in the year, as well as a summer fayre on July 5th, Flag Day on August 15th and an autumn fayre on September 13th. There will also be a Christmas coffee morning on November 29th. All of the above events will be held in the Methodist Church Hall in Sidmouth. Sidmouth Friends of Samaritans would like to pass on their thanks to all their supporters, who donate their unwanted goods, and to their loyal band of helpers, without whom they could not continue. The garage sale raised £150.
