HONITON: Pub extension plans given go ahead
Thursday, 15 May 2014
Plans to extend the beer garden at The Star Inn pub in New Street have been given the go ahead by district council planning chiefs. JD Wetherspoon, which owns the pub, has been granted permission to demolish the existing warehouse, adjacent to Fairfield House in Jerrard Close, in order to accommodate the extension of the beer garden and an outside storage area. There were no objections to the application from environmental health officers or the county highways authority, and members of East Devon District Council’s Development Management Committee approved the plans on Tuesday. Councillor Mike Allen, EDDC ward member for Honiton St Michael’s, had previously raised concerns that the size of the development was “out of keeping” with the area and required close inspection. And Honiton Town Council had requested that public access to the beer garden be restricted from the King Street car park. But members approved the application after a report recommended that the plans would “add to the level of vitality” in the town centre.
