NOT HAPPY: Shop volunteer June Loud with the offending mattress

NOT HAPPY: Shop volunteer June Loud with the offending mattress

Volunteers at an Axminster charity shop has stressed it is not a dumping ground for stained mattresses and other furniture. Charity Togs volunteers were greeted by a stained mattress and a large chair when they arrived on Wednesday March 26th. It was the second dumping episode in the space of two weeks. Shop manager Betty Copland said: “It must have been transported in some sort of vehicle, so they could have gone to the tip instead.” Fortunately, an East Devon District Council Street Scene crew was able to remove the offending articles promptly and free of charge. A grateful Betty said: “But if they can’t come it has to stay, and it would look grim.” The shop gratefully receives clothing, books, pictures, bric a brac, toys and some small electrical items.
