SIDMOUTH: Walk about town

n Nigel Hyman and walkers

Every week, from now until the end of October, locals and visitors to Sidmouth will have the opportunity for free guided walks around town, thanks to the museum. There will be three walks each week – one covering the west end of the town, one covering the east end and a special geology walk along the Esplanade. Nigel Hyman, Chairman of Sidmouth Museum, is one of the walk leaders. He said:?“The walks are for everybody – locals and tourists. We try to include some local history and interesting buildings, for example Fortfield Terrace and Royal Glen. Today we're covering the east side of the town – up towards Sidholme and then back along The Byes. “The walks are easy as there are no steep hills! I've been one of the walk leaders for about four years now, but we quite often learn new things about Sidmouth from other walkers and locals who come to take part. It's great to be able to share each other's knowledge and love for the town.” The walks on Tuesdays and Thursdays, (covering west and east respectively) start at 11am outside Sidmouth Museum. Both walks last about two hours. The walk on Wednesdays, also starting at the museum, begins at 2pm and is led by a geologist. It lasts about one hour. Dogs are welcome and all the walks are free.
