Farmer airlifted

A man was airlifted to hospital from an Axminster farm after at least one bale of hay fell on him. Road and air ambulance were despatched to a farm in the Axminster area at about 7pm on Monday of last week. A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said that a 21-year-old man was hit by at least one falling bale of hay from a height of approximately 15 feet. The man suffered hip and knee injuries, and was flown to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. A spokesperson for Devon Air Ambulance Trust said: “We were called out at 7.10pm. “Our north Devon aircraft and crew attended a farm in Axminster to attend an incident reported as being straw bale landing on a patient. “We conveyed him to Derriford Hospital.”
