SEATON: Caves play is a sellout
Tuesday, 22 April 2014
IT looks like being the hottest ticket in town this summer – and sadly there none left on sale. Macbeth in the Beer Quarry Caves, the first time this historical site has hosted a theatrical event, has really captured the public’s imagination since it was first revealed in Pulman’s View last month. “With a month to go we have completely sold out which is fantastic news,” said Sarah White, who is co-director of the Four of Swords Theatre Company. “Somehow we have convinced over 400 people to travel out into the countryside to watch a play in a cave. To be honest we just cannot believe the response.” White said the production has also received financial backing from the Arts Council but sadly that didn’t stretch to putting on further shows to cater for the demand. “The cast already have other commitments but perhaps we can look at it again later in the year,” added White. “We would love to come back.” The famous Shakespeare play has been re-worked into a one-hour production and audience members, who will be issued with hard hats, will be guided through the labyrinth of the caves by The Witches. Opening night is Wednesday, April 30th .
