ONITON: Helpful critique for Honiton Art Society

Thursday, 27 March 2014

t Society

A CRITIQUE of members work was given by well-known local artist and author, Ray Balkwill, at Honiton Art Society`s March meeting.
Keeping members all entertained with his amusing anecdotes, Ray gave a very constructive and encouraging critique. He reminded the group of the importance of the "3Cs" - composition, colour and contrast in their work and to paint subjects that mean a lot to them, as this will show through in the end result.
Ray always prefers to paint outdoors as he believes that painting from life gives a better feel for the subject than can be obtained working from photographs alone.
To finish a picture to its best advantage, he stressed how the choice of a generous mount and frame can give importance to the work.
Chairman, Barrie Raby thanked Ray on behalf of all members.
The next meeting of the society is on April 14th at Awliscombe Village Hall, from 2pm to 4pm when Mike McDonald will demonstrate “Abstracts in Mixed Media”. New members and visitors always welcome with a £2 charge.
