AXMINSTER: Meeting over future of youth centre

Thursday, 27 March 2014

Anyone worried by the possible closure of Axminster Youth Centre has been invited to a public meeting by the town council.
Faced with budget cuts, Devon County Council (DCC) is considering drastic changes to its youth service, which would affect the youth centre in Axminster.
Should the youth service cuts become a reality, it has been proposed by DCC that an existing local group or organisation takes over the centre, or that one is formed to do so.
The town council has called the public meeting, which will be chaired by the mayor Jeremy Walden, to "try to ensure the continuation of a youth group in Axminster".
There is no suggestion the town council itself would take over the youth centre, but members are keen to bring interested parties together. Anyone with relevant experience or professional qualifications in setting up and running organisations is particularly welcome to the meeting, which will start at 7pm in Axminster Guildhall on Friday March 28th. Anyone interested but unable to attend can contact the town council on 01297 32088 or e-mail
