AXMINSTER: Concert to raise funds for heritage centre
Thursday, 27 March 2014
A fundraiser in aid of Axminster Heritage's Thomas Whitty House heritage centre project will be held in Kilmington Village Hall on Saturday March 29th.
The fundraiser comes in the shape of a concert with The Two Rivers Big Band, Torridge and Straw, starting at 7pm.
Axminster Heritage is in the process of creating a heritage centre in Thomas Whitty House, and trustee Andrew Moulding said: "Following a very successful ' nearly new sale' when over £1,500 was raised, we are now looking forward to further fundraising activities - all of which will assist us as we put together our bid for Heritage Lottery."
The first and second floors have been refurbished and five offices have been let to local people, helping to defray the costs of maintaining this listed Georgian building.
"The first floor has a kitchenette and well-equipped meeting room with a capacity of up to 50 persons and this is available for hire by contacting the tourist information centre on 01297 34386 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
"This historic grade 2 listed building is being managed by local trustees, but we hope many local societies and organisations will make use of it and that it will become a focus for the community in the centre of the town." Concert tickets are £8.50 each, available from Diana Church on 01297 32417.
